Friends Reunion Review – Roller Coaster of Nostalgia and Emotions

is very rare for a show to have an influence on the public for more than 27 years But what the cast, crew, and creators didn’t even think about is that the start of running has brought streaming to a whole new level. A few years after the end of the show, more young people watched the show F.R.I.E.N.D.S where Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc played their respective characters. The demand to see him together was increased and fans were overjoyed when HBO Max announced a Reunion with friends after months of wait. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, filming was significantly delayed. Then the cast finally filmed a reunion in April this year, and they got ready to hit the big screen again.

The 1 hour and 40 minutes long reunion started with tears. The six actors revisited their set together after 17 years and were pretty emotional. They then sat together for an interview with James Corden in front of the iconic fountain where they shot the theme song. The interview was then interspaced with the stars reading their popular scenes, reenacting some scenes, and watching the bloopers.

From the very beginning, Friends: The Reunion rides extraordinarily on emotions. It is heartening to watch the on-screen companionship of the cast rendering into real life. They reveal that the reason why they became family is that no one else could relate to the changes in their lives. They quickly became each other’s support and never lost their love for each other. This feeling of positivity is intense in the reunion.

Since the show is already very famous and fans literally know everything about it from bloopers to their off-screen life to articles to facts but still, somehow this reunion spilled some new facts and secrets and it all started with a scene of Matt LeBlanc’s shoulder dislocation during the filming of “Where Everyone Is Late”. Then we found out that Matthew Perry was always concerned about the public’s reaction to his lines and what their reaction is. This is important for further consideration, as he suffered from the problem of addiction while filming.

The huge revelation of the show was when James Corden asked if there were any romances. There have been numerous articles that quote Matthew Perry saying he was captivated by Courteney Cox. But in the reunion, we found out that Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer crushed hard on each other during filming. However, the timing between them was never right and they did in fact just remain friends as one of them was usually in a relationship with other people. Jennifer said they channeled their feelings on being Ross and Rachel which was hugeeeee for the audience.

To get a reunion right, especially for a show like Friends, must have been challenging. But by creating a diverse format, it was kept interesting. Perhaps the involvement of David Crane, Matha Kauffman, and Kevin Bright made the reunion feel familiar.

For die-hard Friends fans, make sure you have a box of tissues with you. The reunion is a rollercoaster ride of emotions. In one minute, you will be laughing about “pivot, pivot, pivot” and the next you will be crying over the scene when they all leave for one last coffee.
