Sheheryar Munawar’s short film frames postmarital depression in an apt way
Sheheryar Munawar’s directional debut short film “Prince Charming” got released on YouTube with an incredibly talented cast including Zahid Ahmed and Mahira Khan. The film is 11 minutes long which is moderately limited when you want to depict a story, but somehow Sheheryar managed to portray the entire topic so splendidly that it left the audience with goosebumps.
Mahira Khan plays the character of a housewife “Sheherazade” who lives a monotonous life with her son and husband. Kudos to Mahira for doing the whole short film with zero makeup. That’s what we call art and Mahira did exactly what genuine artists do. We won’t get into the details as you can watch the movie yourself but we got to say they talked about a topic people never talk about. Zahid Ahmed’s performance is remarkable as always and this film is another illustration of how diverse he is as an actor.
Postmarital depression is considered taboo almost everywhere and women don’t talk about it. They feel accusable for having these thoughts but they never talk about it since everything seems okay in their lives so what is the reason for this depression? It’s not easy to explicate everything in 11 minutes but we got to appreciate the makers for explaining everything people need to know about post-marital depression. People are in absolute awe and some are even astonished how Sheheryar managed to make this masterpiece in his debut.
Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s poetry recitation by the elegant voices of Mahira and Zahid are cherry on top and that’s when you realize it doesn’t get better than this. Women who couldn’t talk about post-marital depression will feel apprehended after watching this film and the film also gives a beautiful message in the end.
