Dynamite Prawns Authentic Recipe
Dynamite Prawns is one of people’s favorite things to order when they go out to a Chinese/Japanese restaurant, usually as a side dish or an appetizer. Dynamite Prawns are surprisingly easy to make right at home! This shrimp is dredged in flour and then batter, then fried and coated with a spicy dynamite sauce.

However, the amount of Sriracha sauce you use can be adjusted to your preference. Only a few teaspoons of Sriracha were actually in the sauce.
Ingredients for Dynamite Prawns
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 3/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 cups cold water
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 clove chopped garlic
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
- Canola oil for frying
- 1 pound shrimp/prawns deveined and shells removed 21-25 count
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce
Instructions
- Heat a pot of oil to 375 degrees, at least 3 inches high.
- Mix together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt and pepper then dredge the shrimp in it and dust off the excess amount.
- Whisk the water into the flour mixture then dip the shrimp into it and fry them immediately until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
- Whisk together the mayonnaise, sugar, ketchup, garlic powder and sriracha and toss with the freshly fried prawns before serving.
