Eid 2020 – How you should be spending it amidst COVID-19

Eid ul Fitr is around the corner but things are quite different this time. Fortunately, things aren’t as bad as last year but this year’s Eid is not gonna be the same due to COVID-19 too. It’s 2021 and Covid-19 is still as powerful as it was in the beginning. People eventually started ignoring the safety measures and continued their normal lives which led to more damage not only in Pakistan but in other countries as well.

The government has been quite strict when it comes to adhering to SOPs lately and all the markets got closed after the 27th of Ramadan. On 28th Ramadan when I went out to get some groceries,I couldn’t get a single thing as all the stores were closed even during the day time. The police have been sealing the stores which are open and that takes away our “Classic Chand Raat Vibes” Chand Raat which is a night before eid used to be really different from other nights as most people did their shopping on Chand Raat and all the markets were open from dusk till dawn.

Now forget dusk, the markets won’t be open during the day and people won’t be allowed to go out as all the marts, parlours, restaurants and public places are closed so what else can people go out for?

This Year’s Eid will be not as festive as other Eids too since Eid is all about family and friends and spending quality time with them Men perform Eid prayer in a mosque and then hug each other while wishing Eid. Going out and eating in a fancy restaurant from the Eidi you’ve got from your elders was one of the biggest joys and that’s what made Eid the most awaited festival especially for kids and teens. Kids aren’t that excited for this Eid as there is nothing they will be doing.

But we think there are different ways we can celebrate Eid in lockdown.

  • We can invite few family members (only if they follow proper SOPs and wash their hands right after entering your house)
  • We can cook dinner for them and enjoy it
  • We know hugging is essential in Eid and we even hug those people who we never hug the whole year but this year we can go for an elbow touch which is a lot safer.
  • We can have a movie night with close family and friends and can order a lot of food from some restaurant.
  • If you’re an introvert, you can chill by watching something great on Netflix while eating something you love
  • You can video chat with your relatives you wanted to meet on Eid
  • You can get ready and take a lot of pictures (send them to your friends and relatives you wanted to meet on Eid)
  • Last but not least, Relax and enjoy your days off.

Apart from all these things, we have to remember how tempting it seems to go out a lot during the Eid holidays, this will have a negative impact on your and your family’s health. Stay home and stay safe.
