Rick and Morty’ season 5 finale is everything we needed

The “Rick and Morty” season 5 finale aired on Sunday night with not just one episode but two: “Forgetting Sarick Mortshall” and “Rickmurai Jack.”

Forgetting Sarick Mortshall starts familiar enough. After accidentally spilling some portal juice on his hand, Morty gets into a fight with Rick, and they soon part ways. This isn’t the first time that Rick and Morty have turned on each other, but their separation lasts a lot longer than usual, encompassing everything from Puddle Jerry and the Portal Boys to vomit in the mouth and an alien crow tractor beam.

It’s been five seasons coming, but Rick has finally acknowledged his own cruel toxicity, and what makes this even more painful is that his sudden realization doesn’t fix what’s already broken. Morty expects them to get back together, “because that’s what happens at the end of a Rick and Morty episode”, but that’s not on the cards, not immediately anyway.

A fan-favorite character who hadn’t been seen in a few seasons, Evil Morty came back during the finale — and viewers were here for it.
“I want an Evil Morty spin-off,” wrote one person on Twitter.
Another tweeted, “WHAT A FINALE!! Finally, they told about Rick’s Backstory and the way they expressed the brutality of Evil Morty was just stunning.”
“Rick and Morty” is an animated TV series created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, who voices both main characters: Rick, a genius scientist, and Morty, Rick’s teenage grandson. It first premiered in 2013 on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim; Cartoon Network is owned by CNN’s parent company. The show’s next season return has yet to be announced.
