Radhe – Movie Review

Salman Khan’s Radhe – You are most wanted Bhai got released on Eid ul Fitr 2021 and became the most-watched movie amidst COVID. As theatres remain closed in many parts of the country, Salman keeps his almost annual date with Eid, through ZeePlex this time. If we talk about the story,  Mumbai’s youth are falling prey to extensive drug abuse, suspended cop Radhe (Salman Khan) is recalled for a cleanup mission. But Radhe is up against a treacherous new outlaw Rana (Randeep Hooda), who will stop at nothing to rule the city.

Radhe’s reputation heralds his arrival. He is credited with 97 encounters and has been transferred 23 times. No task is challenging for him and he throws away his old punch line ‘Ek Baar Commitment kar diya toh apni bhi Nahin sunta’. There isn’t much in the film to hold interest, but for the intimidating Rana (Randeep Hooda) who proves to be elusive and a tough nut to crack, even for Radhe. But their face-off, especially in the pre-interval segment, falls flat. Radhe’s story is all over the place and you hardly care for what’s happening on screen. Dance numbers are thrown in unnecessarily.

The movie is directed by Prabhudheva who relies profoundly on Salman’s star-power, style, and swag to drive the narrative and it works when our leading man is packing a punch. But beyond the action, we are left with filmy dialogues, his monotonous chemistry with Disha Patani, and humorless exchanges with Jackie Shroff, who plays Salman’s superior as a senior cop. Randeep Hooda is smooth and fierce in his act and makes every minute on screen, count. There are many other villains in this pack of baddies, who just end up being loud and over-the-top. There is an attempt to infuse comedy through dialogues and situations in this hardcore action film, but it doesn’t work.

So we can say it’s another Bhai movie with nothing special but amidst Covid when nothing good is happening, you can give it a try for a light Friday night.
